Anyone who lives within the boundaries of our parish, or who is on our church Electoral Roll, or has demonstrable links with our parish, is entitled to be married through the Parish Church.  Couples may get married either at our church:

The Church of the Good Shepherd, Cox Green

( located in the Community Centre in Highfield Lane)

Or in one of the following churches in our neighbouring parishes:

                   St Mary's, White Waltham,

                   All Saints, Boyne Hill,

                   St Michael's, Bray

                   St John's, Littlewick Green,

                   St James the Less, Stubbings.

Whichever church is chosen, couples will need to meet first with the Vicar of Cox Green to make all the necessary arrangements.  We will liaise with the other churches where necessary.

Those who have been married before and are divorced will need to discuss their options with the Vicar.  As a parish we follow the guidelines set down by the House of Bishops in these circumstances.  For more details, visit the Church of England web-site: - click on ‘Life Events’.

Marriage by banns

Most weddings in the Church of England follow the calling of Banns though, in special circumstances, they can be by licence.  If both partners live in our parish, this will be arranged here.  If one of the partners lives in another parish, contact should be made with the parish priest there, two to three months before the wedding. S/he will arrange for the Banns to be called on three consecutive Sundays, after which a Banns Certificate will be issued.  This must be sent to our Pastoral Office or given to the Vicar here as soon as possible -without this certificate the marriage cannot take place.  The cost for calling the Banns in 2017 is £41 including the certificate.

Marriage Preparation.

The Church believes it is very important that those who want to get married take time to consider deeply the life-long commitment they will be making to each other.

We share Marriage Preparation with two other local parishes: All Saints, Boyne Hill and St Luke’s, Maidenhead.  Usually Marriage Preparation takes place on a Saturday either at the Community Centre or at All Saints, Boyne Hill. This provides an opportunity to look at different aspects of marriage and relationships, and to go through the marriage service.  It is also a chance to get together with other couples preparing for marriage and share thoughts and ideas.

We also welcome couples to share our Marriage Preparation who are getting married at a civil ceremony, and may not be offered any marriage preparation. This will depend on spaces being available.

For dates of marriage preparation please contact the Church Office where you will be able to book the date that you wish to attend.  The same programme is followed, and clergy and lay people from our three churches lead the day.
